Books in the West offers an excellent range of books, guaranteed to have you browsing contentedly. The choice is staggering and the quality of what is on offer (and the service) beats any big chain bookstore. The atmosphere is friendly and I am made most welcome each  time I visit. My daughter loves meeting Mo and exploring what is on  the shelves - btw, she is only two so the bookshop caters for all ages! Mo Blake has an eye for what makes a good read, and her knowledge of the stock is encyclopaedic. Whenever I need to order a book the process is painless, Mo simply does it all and the book is  with me within a day or two. Her service is professional and swift. I simply love the place and recommend it to any locals who have not yet gone through the yellow door. Oh, and anyone else for that matter!

Books in the West has been a fantastic addition to our Main Street, not only because it has rejuvenated what was a very dilapidated shop front, making the whole street look more lively and more welcoming, but also because you have succeeded in creating a shop that welcomes all ages and all levels of interest, from total book devourers like me to my much-harder-to-impress12 year old and her friends, to Scottish history fanatics to toddlers just starting to discover that books sound better than they taste.  And I can't imagine there are many villages as small as West Kilbride that can boast a bookshop at all, let alone one that regularly hosts readings by acclaimed Scottish writers, often reading work that has yet to reach publication.  And all this in a space smaller than a Glasgow bus.  Books in the West, we salute you.

There are far too few independent shops of any kind nowadays. West Kilbride is fortunate to have so much literary choice and the shop outside and in is so welcoming and 'browser-friendly' - long may it continue. As the shop is local we would frequent it more and probably get more involved in literary events, so, not just for us, it could contribute greatly to the local social and economic aspects of the village and surrounding area. I love reading and any outlet which encourages young people, indeed any person to read a real book which feeds the imagination should be encouraged.

In a small craft village book shop situated near the Firth of Clyde. Here is a collection of books of distinction at very reasonable prices. A selection chosen with care and appreciation by people who cherish the written word .  A stock of books attractive to and suitable for people of all ages.

However its more than that . It is a meeting place for writers and readers where friendship and hospitality is freely offered and exchanged in an atmosphere of warmth and comradeship. A place where thinking people will feel immediately at home and where one knows  that every effort will be made to ensure that one leaves enlivened, realising that you have experienced a great deal more than just a visit to a bookshop.  You have visited friends

Books in the West is certainly a bookshop of distinction .

Best wishes,

I love going to West Kilbride.  "Books in the West" is my favourite shop in this village where crafts and books play an important role in the lives of locals and visitors alike.

It`s small and intimate. Mo makes us welcome with a cup of coffee while we browse  -  and it`s even nicer when George is there too and we all start a deep discussion on poets and poetry books and who is next coming to perform at one of the literary "Events" which they hold at regular intervals. It`s a mecca for local poets and writers. We can meet and get to know each other, and benefit hugely from the resulting pool of ideas and themes.

Great books too, a wide variety to choose from. Easy to buy presents for gardening friends, literary friends, sporty friends, travelling friends, a poetry book for me, of course,  -  and I can never resist one from the children`s section for my wee great grandson. I`m gathering Beatrix Potter to give to him on his third birthday.

It`s a super book-shop, and I thoroughly recommend it for the "Independent Bookseller of the Year Award 2011"

I wandered into Books in the West for the first time late last year (2010) and have been a regular visitor ever since.  The shop does what small, local, independent shops do best; a warm and personable welcome is backed up with excellent service. Nothing is too much trouble. They have great ambitions for the shop and it says much for the commitment of Mo, the shop manager, and George, the owner, that in such a short period of time they have organised numerous successful readings involving authors from the West Kilbride area, as well as from further afield. They are determined to make their mark and I am certain they will.

I wish them greater and greater success!

Books in the West is a precious gem in our midst. Since Books in the West opened here in West Kilbride a year ago, I have become quite a fan.  Always welcomed by the congenial atmosphere, I feel at ease to browse over the fabulous range of literature to find just the right book for my family and friends.  Important too is that it is an independent bookseller and one of the reasons why I order there the specialist books that I need. What more could one ask for, other than the Books in the West regular Writers evenings. To hear in the intimacy of the shop, renowned authors and poets readings their works is a privilege and  whilst extremely enjoyable they are  always stimulating events.

Great shop and excellent at offering advice on what book to choose as a gift for both adults and children. First class service in ordering books and the personal attention is much better than the impersonal use of the web. The selection of books is wonderful and a visit to the shop to browse is a treat."

Some comments from the opening

Books in the West is a new bookshop that opened last Friday in West Kilbride. The staff are friendly and informed and I recommend it to anyone in the area.

In fact, I’ll even recommend it to anyone who’s not in the area.
